Kirsten Shannon started her artistic journey in Oregon, studied art in California, and moved to Kansas after she married. She has been included in a variety of group shows and has had multiple large solo shows. She is included in many notable public and private collections around the country. Between shows, Kirsten can be found fulfilling commissions, being a momma to her two teenagers, and delighting in the outdoors; traveling, hiking, or camping.
Painting is total surrender for Kirsten as she regards the wonder in color and the physicality of her medium. Her work purveys hopefulness characterized by loose layering, freewheeling marks, vibrant chroma, and the idea that a brushstroke takes on a “self” of its own. Constantly responding to the psyche of the paint, Kirsten’s work layers emotion and embraces the accidental.
